Stirling Moss Scrapbook

1929 - 1954

"Philip Porter's Porter Publishing has carved out a 'niche' in the shape of the Sir Stirling Moss Scrapbooks and of course the recent Graham Hill publication. The latest of the Moss offerings covers the childhood, the teenage and the beginning of his career, fifty years ago, of the Moss story until 1954. It is the best!

As ever, extracts from Stirling's diaries, interview, comments, links, press cuttings and pictures are fused together in such a fascinating manner that when I sat down to commence reading the book I stayed until I had read it all.

My next trick is to get the earlier ones out and to read them all over again and then phone and plead with Philip not to stop.

I met Sir Stirling for the first time in 1953, his boundless energy has never faded and if you meet this living legend, that trite old saying 'what you see is what you get' is the understatement of all time. His ability in all conditions, in all types of event and different forms of racing and rallying has never been equalled.

Philip, you have 1956 to I960 to cover next and 1962 to the present day to cover later.

You write-I buy – I read – o.k..?"

"Editor's Note : I took this book over to France for the afore-mentioned wedding and Circuit des Remparts (about which more next month) Along with the foie gras, magret de canard and Pineau de Charente I devoured a little every day — or night, and echo Neville's sentiments entirely. Little did I know that Stirling and Susie were to be guests of honour at Angouleme !

Those non-motoring enthusiasts to whom I showed it were equally enthralled. Another winner from the Porter stable."
