Jaguar Heritage

Issue 20, Stirling Moss 1955

Sir Stirling Moss has lived in the heart of London for many years and at his delightful home is a section devoted to a collection of scrapbooks. They are carefully bound and catalogued and tell the story of his life; Soon they will all be reproduced in the same manner as this present volume. Philip Porter has been granted access to the archives and the result is this lavishly illustrated large format book. Compiled in collaboration with Sir Stirling the scrapbook uses material that Moss has collected, along with additional narrative and illustrations by Porter.

The book commences in January and goes right through to Christmas 1955. In between there is a wealth of material that makes it a most fascinating read; there is much, apart from the photographs, to relate the story of Stirling's life mat year. This includes the spectacular Mille Miglia win that is still talked about. The winning Mercedes-Benz car has just been retired to the factory museum after its appearance at this year's Mille Miglia.

Moss's collection of newspaper and magazine cuttings is faithfully reproduced and they make interesting reading. How the style of reporting has changed over fifty years is an eye-opener! Moss's life in motor sport has always been complemented by another life; he liked all sports from an early age and also an interest in things mechanical and electronic. His house in London was one of the first to have remote controlled aids, such as garage doors and lighting, which were reported by the press nearly forty years ago. Moss stays active; he still drives the cars that made him famous in historic meets, such as Goodwood, with all the magic of his heyday.

This book is highly recommended and will become immediately collectable.
